"Clean" ... cleansed of sins. 

"Because of" ... keeping God’s Law, the 10 commandments, daily prayers of repentance, doing good deeds, paying tithes, attending church, quitting wrongful actions, midnight prayers? No! None of the above! 

"Because of the word which I have spoken to you"

What "word"? The Truth. 

What is the Word of Truth? 

The word of Truth is the water and blood of Jesus that the Spirit bears witness to; before God, and in the hearts of those who believe in the baptism of Jesus by the laying on of John the Baptist's hands to pass all our sins onto Him, His subsequent death on the Cross in our place, His resurrection and His being God. (Isaiah 34:16, Leviticus 16:21, 34, Matthew 3:15, John 1:29, John 19:30, 34, 1Peter 3:21)

1John 5:6-8

This is He who came by water and blood—Jesus Christ; not only by water, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit who bears witness, because the Spirit is truth. 7 For there are three that bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one. 8 And there are three that bear witness on earth: the Spirit, the water, and the blood; and these three agree as one.
