We all know the story of Job and how he lost everything, but Job did not lose his faith or trust in God to pull him through. In this day and age people are committing suicide for much less, and one of the greatest factors which causes this comes from those well-wishers around you who call themselves friends or family. But the biggest form of destruction comes from today’s false prophets and healers who maintain they are God sent. They can only give false hope with their lies and deceit. This also goes for those who are not who they maintain they are.
Job 13:4. But you forgers of lies, you are all worthless physicians.
Job is stating here the attitude of others when a man is down. Although Job was down and out and miserable because of his losses he still desired to go directly to God with all his questions and arguments knowing that he would be appreciated for his trust. Job felt that his friends were totally without sympathy and lacking in understanding his case with God. All those around him were doing was perverting Job’s words and heaping false accusations upon him instead of showing pity.
These forgers of lies and physicians of no value only caused him to sink deeper into despair and provoked him into saying things that otherwise he would never have said (Job 13:3-4). The lies here were perhaps the false accusations, errors in judgment, and their false positions. Those around him were unable to see the divine dealings, the character of Job, or the works of Satan. Job’s friends maintained that he was a hypocrite, and that God was punishing him for his sins, and that God dealt with men according to their character in this world, all of which Job regarded as false doctrine. How often are the born again Saints not hit with the same accusations from those who are not what they seem to be?
Initially Job’s friends had come to him to console him and to sympathize with him, but nothing they had to say had helped him in the least. All they has succeeded in doing was provoking Job into uttering things which he did not want to utter. These friends were doctors of no value to him what so ever (13:4). Is the company you keep of value to you? Or have they manipulated you for their own good?
